The Railway Inn Information

Description

The Railway Inn, family owned business, located in the heart of the English Riviera. A warm and friendly Devon Pub/Restaurant and six bedroom hotel, Fresh food from our own kitchens, Beers and Wines from local suppliers. Fantastic Food Lunch & Dinner, 7 days a week. Sunday Carvery.Bar open all day from 11am. Breakfast available for non-residents. We are centrally located in Torbay, with all that has to offer, with have a huge car park and great transport links to nearby Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Dartmouth - we even have the truly atmospheric Churston Ferrers Steam Railway Station within 10 meters of the front door! The Railway Inn has been steeped in local history since the 1800s, having been originally built as The Railway Hotel. We’ve become a very popular meeting place for Agatha Christie fans; Agatha apparently used to sit and write on table 4 whilst waiting for the train to London and the Queen of Crime’s riverside residence at Greenway, now run by the National Trust, is just 2 miles away, with a free bus leaving from just outside our front door. The Railway Inn has six quality en-suite bedrooms, with either bath or shower. They are contemporarily furnished, have a flat screen TV, hair dryer, complimentary hot beverages. All our customers can enjoy free WI-Fi. Our dedicated housekeeper, keeps everything immaculate and strive to make any stay as comfortable as possible. We can provide an iron and ironing board or provide extra pillows/duvets/blankets and up to two extra camp beds in some rooms. Wonderful cooked Breakfasts, as well as a wide range of cereal. We are also happy to put together a breakfast box that you can take up to your room the night before (order by 8.30pm).

Donna and Philip McCann (Owners) purchased the property on the 18th September 2019 and are really excited to have another historic building to add to their portfolio. Donna and Phil have 3 other establishments, The Pig and Whistle, Newton Road, Littlehempston, Totnes, Devon TQ9 6LT; The Otter Inn, Weston, Honiton, East Devon EX14 3NZ; Church House Inn, Village Road, Marldon, Paignton, Devon TQ3 1SL. You will see Donna and Phil regularly at any of their sites and The Team at The Railway Inn will look after you. Their Daughter, Georgia Chef's at all of them from time to time. A real family affair. There are fantastic Teams at all their sites and great customer service, great food and drink awaits.

Accessibility

Whilst we have disabled access into the building, all our rooms are at first floor level and the staircase is quite long so all our rooms are not suitable for anyone with extensive mobility issues.

Directions

  • Road from Outside Torbay (8.0 miles)
Coming into Torbay, choose the main Torbay Ring Road A380, follow this to Tweenaway Cross (near Paignton Zoo) where it becomes the A379 towards Brixham. Follow this to Windy Corner where it merges with the A3022 the Torbay Coastal route. Continue towards Brixham (across a common) and we are to your right directly adjacent to Churston Steam Railway Station. Our entrances are slightly obscured so take care - we have two so if you miss the first we have another.
  • Road from Anywhere Road Numbers (0.0 miles)
Please be aware sometime ago the Road numbers A3022 and A379 where swapped around and many maps, phone apps, sat navs etc have yet to recognise this or properly implement it. There is thus some confusion as to which road we are on if you use one of these methods. We are on the main road into Brixham which is known as the Brixham Road or Dartmouth Road depending at what point you are on it. We are on the main Torbay bus route - the No. 12 - which runs every 10-12 mins with stops just outside.
  • Train from Anywhere (0.0 miles)
The nearest Mainline Train Station is Paignton which is 3.3 Miles away. We are literally adjacent to Churston Station but this is a Tourist Steam Railway Station and whilst there is a connection at Paignton it doesn't run a full service all year round and the ticket prices reflect the leisure nature of the line rather than transport. It is incredibly beautiful though.
  • Air from Anywhere (24.0 miles)
Exeter International Airport is our nearest airport and is 24 Miles away travel time by Taxi would be about an hour.
  • Boat from Anywhere (8.0 miles)
We are very close to Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Dartmouth and the River Dart all of whom have extensive marina services. There are also extensive Ferry and River Taxi services both on sea and on the river Dart.
